Lonnie D. Zemke, age 66, a resident of Ray Township for over 30 years, passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2016 at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township, Michigan. Lonnie was born in Caro, Michigan on February 4, 1950, the son of the late Arthur E. and the late Agnes R. (Kreiner) Zemke. After graduating from Romeo High School in 1968, Lonnie joined the Army and served in Vietnam where he received the Bronze Star Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. Upon his release from the Military, Lonnie joined the VFW Post # 2052 in Romeo where he served as its commander and helped out with all activities. He retired as a foreman with Kaltz Excavating after 26 years of employment. Upon retirement he had many and varied hobbies. He enjoyed competitive woodchuck hunting with his friends, loved to garden, was an accomplished ammunition reloader, went prairie dog hunting every year, did rock polishing, treasure hunting, playing horseshoes, and all types of hunting. Lonnie is survived by his children: David (Theresa) Zemke of Washington Twp., Marc Zemke of Ray Township and Krystal (Steve) Yeadon of Romeo. Also survived by grandchildren Gabriel & Wyatt along with siblings: Fred (Mary), Wayne, Dale (Barb), Richard (Kay), Connie (Len) Parker, and Kathie (Jeff) Wilcox. Funeral services will take place on Thursday at 3 PM at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home of Romeo. Visitation will take place on Wednesday from 2-8 and on Thursday from 11 AM till the service starts at 3 pm. Burial will take place on Saturday at 1 PM at Great Lakes Veteran Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.
