Mary L. Burns

Mary Louise (née Recor) Burns, age 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 surrounded by her loving husband and children. Mary was born in Detroit, MI, the daughter of Jack and Margaret (Ryan) Recor. She married the love of her life, James Burns in 1953 and they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in August. Mary and Jim moved to Romeo in 1970 and were active in many local organizations. Mary was active at St. Clement Catholic Church where she sang in the choir and served as a Eucharistic Minister. While raising her 5 children, Mary was also a teacher for the Archdiocese of Detroit, a bank teller, and a bus driver for Romeo Community Schools. Mary enjoyed crocheting, quilting, pinochle, and being a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Mary is survived by her daughters Debra Grinde of Milton, FL, Maureen of Romeo, Shannon (Jeff) Griffin of Romeo, Bridget (Jeff) Kowalke of Washington, and her son, Matthew (Deborah) of Armada; grandchildren Patrick (Alaina), Michael (Michelle), Matthew, Connor (Taylor), Cameron, Owen, Benjamin, and James, and great-grandchildren Josie, Mack, and Tessa; as well as extended family, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her siblings Jack Recor and Joellen McAuley and her son-in-law, Alvin Grinde.

Visitation will be on Thursday, September 28 from 4-8 with a 7 PM Rosary with the Knights of Columbus at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home, Romeo, Michigan.

Funeral services will take place on Friday, September 29, 2023 at 10 AM (in state at 9 AM) at St Clement Catholic Church of Romeo with burial at Guardian Angel Cemetery in Oakland Twp.
