Michael W. Nowak

January 5, 1945 — August 5, 2024

Michael William Nowak

Surrounded by family and so much love, Michael William Nowak (79) of Romeo, Michigan, passed away peacefully August 5, 2024 at Henry Ford Hospital.

Son of Thadius and Phyllis (Brackenberry) Nowak, Michael was born on January 5, 1945 in San Diego, California. At a young age his family moved to Michigan, but his unwavering love of sunsets and water might be attributed to his birthplace. Mike was affectionately known as “Sunset Charlie.” To see one setting on an ocean, lake, pond or puddle brought him immense joy.

He was predeceased by his parents, step-father Jack Copp, father and mother-in-law Don & Jessie Puvogel, and his adored sister, Connie Schovan. He is survived by a beautifully blended family: His beloved wife, Belle Marie Nowak; His two children, Suzanne Moore and Michael Nowak (Robyn), their Mother, Cynthia Weller; Brother Lon Nowak; Bonus Daughters Tisha Greco (AnneMarie Moss) and Christina Greco- Ewald (Tom); Nine grandchildren: Brady, Haley, Logan, Carson, Lily, Evan, Ayla, Aidan and Enza, (who he was so proud of) as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

After graduating from High School, Mike attended Ferris State University, and ultimately received a degree from Lawrence Tech in Hydraulic Engineering while working 58 hours per week and attending night classes. His work ethic was remarkable, and he remained at F. Joseph Lamb his entire career. In his spare time, he loved boating, hunting and taking part in a wide range of sports. If he wasn’t participating, he was watching or supporting one of his kid’s games. He always found time for family.

Anyone who was fortunate to be in his company, knew how much Mike liked to make people laugh. He had a quick wit, and an amazing sense of humor (in part because he was a long-suffering Lions fan). No matter how bad things got, he and Belle had a “one laugh (at least) per day” pact.

If you asked Mike what was most important to him, his immediate answer would be “family.” Nothing made him happier than to be hearing stories about what everyone was up to, and during those special moments when we were all fortunate enough to get together, he was in his glory. He was a man who listened and loved unconditionally, because family was everything! It was a special bond that he and Belle shared, and what began their endearing 40-year love affair. When he was nearing his end, and the chatter and laughter of family enveloped him, he said “I love this! I love that you all get along.” In that moment, he knew that his family would be just fine, because we have each other.

Despite his health issues, and all he overcame to keep on living (he was a medical marvel, in fact!), he never wavered in his positivity, and was extremely grateful for the time he had on this earth. In his words, “It was a great run…” He will be forever missed but never forgotten.

Per Mike’s wishes, in lieu of a funeral service, there will be a private family gathering to celebrate his beautiful life (Details to follow upon organization). In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the family: Belle Nowak, 20031 Blackfoot Dr., Clinton Twp., MI 48038
