Morris Frank Hanzek

Morris F. Hanzek, age 85, a resident of Romeo since 1962 and formerly from St. Clair Shores, passed away peacefully at his home on March 4, 2013. Morris was born March 5, 1927 in Akron Township, MI., the son of Joe and Maggie (Kovatch) Hanzek. He married the former Celia Zabinski in 1949 and she preceded him in death on September 13, 2005. After graduating from U of M with his Masters in Education, Morris worked in various school systems retiring from the Grosse Pointe School System, his last position being principal at Parcells Middle School. After retiring, he was a salesman for “Service Sports” in Redford, MI. He coached Little League Baseball in Romeo for many years and helped create the girls softball program. In addition to his love of sports, Morris had a passion for flower and vegetable gardening. His family is a long time member of St. Clement Catholic Church where Morris was an usher for many years. Morris proudly served his country during WW II as a member of the United States Marine Corp, having been stationed in China. Morris is survived by his children: Kathryn (James) Modelski of Brighton, Karen Hanzek of Whitmore Lake, James(Rocky) Hanzek of Romeo, John(Chico) Hanzek of Attica, and Kristine(Tina) Broski of Shelby Twp. Also survived by loving grandchildren, great grandchildren and brother Donald (Myrtle) Hanzek of Iron Mountain, MI. Morris was preceded in death by 13 brothers and sisters. Funeral services will take place on Friday March 8, 2013 at 10 AM at St. Clement Catholic Church, Romeo. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 6-9 and on Thursday from 2-9 with a 7 PM rosary at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home, Romeo Michigan. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township. Donations can be made to the Capuchin Retreat House (62460 Mt.
