Peggy L. (Riederer) Barker

September 9, 1932 — August 1, 2022

Peggy Louise (Riederer) Barker was born September 9, 1932, in Detroit, Michigan to Carl L. and Velma E. Holderbaum. She passed away on August 1, 2022, at Shelby Crossing Health Campus in Shelby Township, Michigan. Peggy grew up in the metro-Detroit area and graduated from Lincoln High School, Warren, Michigan, in 1950. In June of 1951, she married George W. Riederer, who preceded her in death in March of 2001.She later married James J. Barker, who also preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Carl (Pete) Holderbaum. Peggy is survived by her daughter, Leeann Yamakawa (Glenn), her son, Brian Riederer (Kathleen), 4 grandchildren: Jeannie Yamakawa McNorton (Joshua), Eric Riederer, Adam Riederer, and Annie Yamakawa, and a number of nieces and nephews. At age 65, Peggy retired from Troy Public Schools where she served as a school bus driver. As a young family, Peggy and George did a great deal of camping. Later in life, they enjoyed traveling to various places such as Florida, Gatlinburg, and Hawaii. Peggy’s greatest joy in life was attending and serving people at her church. She spent many years as a Sunday School teacher and Women’s Bible Study Leader at both Redeemer Baptist Church, Warren, Michigan (now Woodside Bible Church-Warren campus), and Woodside Bible Church of Troy, Michigan. She was an avid reader who loved reading her Bible, Christian Books, and the Woodside News. In her later years when she wasn’t as mobile, she faithfully watched Woodside Bible Church services, Saturday night Gaither Concerts, Rev. Charles Stanley, and the Detroit Tigers on TV. The family would like to thank the staff of Shelby Crossing Health Campus for their constant care over the past several years, and Hospice for its assistance in the past several weeks. Peggy is finally home in heaven with Jesus, which is where she longed to be for so long. n lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Woodside Bible Church, Troy, Michigan, Abide Ministries, Detroit, Michigan, https://abide.community/ or Extreme Response International, Snellville, Georgia, https://extremeresponse.org/ A memorial service will be held at a later date.
