Ralph Stanley Makowski of Washington Township passed away peacefully on October 3, 2024. Ralph was born November 16, 1937 to Joseph and Martha Makowski. He was raised in Hamtramck along with his 4 siblings, Joann, Margie, Barbara, and David. At age 18, Ralph enlisted into the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division, where he served his country as a paratrooper.
Ralph married Joann Salci in 1959 and they had 2 children; Linda was born in 1966, followed shortly by Steve in 1969. During his professional career, Ralph worked for General Motors, in addition to his service as a volunteer firefighter and EMT for the Romeo Fire Department.
Ralph always surrounded himself with family and friends whenever he got the chance. Most days, you could find him dining at Big Boy, Wildflower Café, or Nick’s Restaurant. Ralph looked forward every year to the holidays and getting to spend time with his loved ones. He was known to give the best candles and pens as Christmas gifts.
Ralph was many things including a great softball player, a motorcycle enthusiast, a great dad, a supportive brother, an involved grandfather, a loved uncle, and an amazing friend. He is now in the comfort of God’s hands and for that we are grateful.
Ralph is survived by his children, Linda (Mike) Reid & Steve (Tara) Makowski - his 3 grandchildren, Michael, Kendall (Jack), & Connor - his fiancé, Margaret Szasz - her son, John Szasz, daughter-in-law, Amber, and granddaughter, Shelby.
