Raymond J. Ameloot

Raymond Jerome Ameloot, age 95, a resident of Armada Township since 1973, and previously from Mt Clemens, passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at the Regency Nursing Facility in Shelby Township, Michigan. Ray was born on November 10, 1924 in Mt Clemens, the son of Jerome and Elizabeth (LeFevre) Ameloot. He married Florence Hellebuyck on July 16, 1949 at St Lawrence Catholic Church in Utica, MI. Ray was a lifelong farmer, finally retiring at 90 years old. He raised vegetables at his Hayes Road farm where he was one of the first “Pick your own vegetables” farms. He also sold vegetables at the Eastern Market, the Farmer’s Market in Mt Clemens, the Armada Flea Market, and at his stand in front of his house on Hayes Road in Mt. Clemens. He also worked in maintenance at the GM Tech Center in Warren for 24 years until retirement in 1986. He was known for growing “Ray’s Famous Garlic and sweet corn”. He served in the Army during WW II while stationed in Korea. Along with his family they were long time members of St John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Allenton, member of the Knights of Columbus 3rd & 4th degree out of Imlay City. His hobbies included deer and pheasant hunting. Ray is survived by his wife Florence, children: Barbara (Joseph) Drader of Grosse Pointe Woods, Linda (Wayne) Nemeth of Chesterfield Township, David (June) Ameloot of Ray Township, Lorraine (Stephen) Grix of Redford, Karen Ameloot of Salt Lake City, Utah and Michael of Detroit. Also survived by 11 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and sister Margaret LeDuc of Shelby Township. Ray was preceded in death by siblings Art, Marie D’Haene and Lucille Spadafore. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, February 5 at 11 AM at St John Catholic Church in Allenton with burial to follow at West Berlin Cemetery . Donations to St John the Evangelist Catholic Church would be appreciated. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 1-8 at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home, Romeo Michigan along with a Rosary at 7 PM.
