The Rev. Dr. Alexander R. Babin, age 85, a resident of Romeo since 1977 and previously from the Sterling Heights/Warren, Mi. area, passed away on June 24, 2019 at Angelica’s Place in Romeo, MI. Ray was born April 21, 1934 in Detroit, the son of Anthony R. and Margaret (Mitchell) Babin. He married the former Linda Heikkinen on June of 1984 at St Paul’s Episcopal Church on Romeo. After graduating from Denby High School in Detroit, Ray attained his business degree from U of M. For many years Ray worked at the Tech Center in Warren as an engineer/manager in the truck group/planning department before he retired in 1987. Upon retiring from GM, Ray attained his D.Min Ecumenical Degree from the Detroit Theological Seminary. His call to the ministry led him to be pastor at St Paul’s Episcopal Church in Romeo from 1976—2001. After his retirement from St Paul’s, Ray worked with many Episcopal church’s in the area as a intern minister. Ray’s love of helping people was seen in his many interests in Romeo. He was involved with the Lions Club for over 30 years, serving as its president and was the chaplain of the Lions District for many years. He could be seen cooking breakfast with his Lions friends when the homeless was housed in Romeo and during the Peach Festival could be seen helping wherever he was needed. He was also a lifelong Mason, sang for many years with the “Village Singers” and his hobbies included competitive rowing boat teams during college, woodworking, (he made a “mean” bowl), golfing, symphonia chorale and just creating new things. Ray is survived by his wife Linda, children: Susan (Fred) Nixon of Atlanta, Georgia, Dr. Scott Allen (Michelle) Babin of Seattle, Washington, Dr. Annie Babin of San Rosa, California, Kelly (Paul) Peterson of Alemede, California, & John Beehler of Muskegon, MI. Grandchildren include Zachary, Erin, Christopher, & Kalle. Funeral services will take place on Monday, July 1, 2019 at 11 AM at St Clement Catholic Church (343 S. main Street) in Romeo with burial of cremains at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Detroit at a later date. Donations to the Alzheimer's Association would be appreciated.
