Richard (Dick) Kabel, age 85 of Clinton Twp., formerly from Romeo/Utica/Warren area passed away on July 29, 2018. He was born December 18, 1932 in Detroit, MI., the son of William Harvey and Margaret (Knausz) Kabel. He married Carol Ann Herr in 1960 who preceded him in death in June of 1979. He graduated from Assumption College High School in Windsor, attended the University of Detroit, graduating from GMI in Flint. Dick retired in 1987 after 32 years at GM Research Laboratories where he was recognized to be an expert on engine oils throughout the world. Dick was very active in the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), was an SAE Fellow member, and served on the SAE Board of Directors. After retiring from GM, he formed the Rich-Lo Consulting corporation. Dick served his country in the Army during the Korean War and was a life member of the VFW Striber-McVicar Post 2052 in Romeo, MI where he served as chaplain for many years. He was also a member of the American Legion, Eagles, Knight of Columbus and S.S. John & Paul Catholic Church in Washington Township, MI. His hobbies included traveling, hunting, fishing, golfing, and woodworking. Richard is survived by his children Keith (Betty) Kabel of Shelby Twp. And Kathleen (David—deceased) Kania of Chicago, five grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and sister Dee (Robert) Berg of Arlington, TX. He is also survived by his wife of 35 years Lois (Sample Chadwick) Kabel, four step children, nine step grand children and numerous step great grand children.
