Robert G. Reid 95 lifelong Romeo/Washington resident passed on Tuesday November 13, 2018 at his home. Bob was born in 1923 on Powell Road at his grandparent’s home. He lived in Romeo and attended North Grade School (now the Administration Building) and Romeo High School, graduating in 1941. Throughout high school, Bob worked at the A&P Store and delivered the Detroit Free Press every morning before school. In 1942, Bob enlisted in the Navy’s Officers Training Program and was called to active duty, receiving his commission as Ensign. He was assigned to a Destroyer Escort, serving in the European War Zone. Bob attended several colleges (receiving Varsity Letters in 3 sports at Wheaton College) and graduated from Western Michigan University in 1948, receiving a teaching degree as well as a Masters Degree from Wayne State in 1955. At Romeo, he taught in the Junior and Senior High Schools where he also coached football, basketball and track. He also taught and was the Principal at Washington Elementary. Over a period of 14 years, Bob became an Elementary and High School Principal, and acting Superintendent at Lake Shore Schools in St. Clair Shores. In 1969, Romeo hired Bob as Superintendent where he spent 10 years serving our district. During that time, the Board of Education was busy with many projects including the construction of Powell, Amanda Moore, Hamilton Parsons, Dan Barnabo Field and the addition of the auditorium and pool to the High School. After his years with the schools, Bob and his wife Wanda bought the Harvest Table Restaurant and owned that for 8 years. Bob was elected to the Washington Township Board, and was elected as Washington Township Supervisor where he served two terms. He was active at Stoney Creek Community Church, was selected as Grand Marshal for the 2015 Romeo Peach Festival Parade, was a Charter Member of the Kiwanis Club and was a Life member of VFW. Wanda and Bob had 59 wonderful years of marriage and enjoyed spending time with their family and friends. Bob is survived by his wife Wanda (Utt); children Lora (Tim) Davidson of Corneleus, North Carolina, Mike (Linda) Reid of Detroit, Bob (Nancy) Reid of Florida; grandchildren Michael, Kendall, Nolan (Monica), and Hidi (Perry) Stephens; Great grandchildren Reid (Christina) Eva, Morgan Kasey, and Myla. Funeral services will take place on Friday, November 16 at 11 AM at the Stoney Creek Community Church. Visitation will be on Friday from 9 AM—11 AM when services will start.
