Robert W. Smith

Robert W. Smith, age 71, a 35 year resident of Romeo, formerly from Port Huron, passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2009 at Beaumont Hospital in Troy. Bob was born May 7, 1938 in Port Huron, the son of Wesley R. and Margaret (Coleman) Smith. He married the former Nancy L. Heyer on June 10, 1961 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Huron. Bob worked as a Kroger Grocery Store manager at their store on S. Main in Romeo for a few years, then worked with the Village of Romeo DPW for a brief time, then worked for over 30 years at the Romeo Tractor/Engine plant until his retirement in 2004. Bob was involved with the Romeo VFW for many years, working as its bar manager/accountant. He served his country while in the Army and his love of life was golfing, doing yard work, and driving his Ford Pickup around. Bob is survived by his wife Nancy of Romeo, daughters: Lori (Keith) Bennett of Ferndale and Debbie (Michael) Torlone of Grosse Pte. Park, MI. Grandchildren include Kimberly Waldron, Christopher & Matthew Torlone along with Matt & Meagan Bennett. Funeral services will take place on Thursday at 11 AM at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home of Romeo with Rev. Mark Evans of the St John Lutheran Church of Romeo officiating.
