Roy "Buzz" Smiles

Roy Stanley “Buzz” Smiles, age 63, a lifetime resident of the Romeo area, died Thursday, December 10, 2009 at his home. He was born July 12, 1946 in Mt Clemens, MI.,, the son of Larry and Virginia (Bade) Smiles. He graduated from Romeo High School in 1964 lettering in football, basketball and baseball. Mr. Smiles attended and played football at Ferris State University for a year and then served his country in Vietnam with the U.S. Army for two years. He was employed and retired after 30 years as a Parts Analyst at Ford Tractor in Troy. Mr. Smiles enjoyed his yard work, his tractors and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his mother, Virginia Smiles, of Shelby Township; two brothers, Richard (Jeanie) Smiles of Romeo and Walter (Lesta) Smiles of Cassopolis, MI; three children, Brad (Patty) Smiles of Oxford, Shelia Smiles (Andy) of Chesterfield, and Diana Smiles of Kalamazoo; and four grandchildren – Jacob, Devin, Abigail and Rebecca. Neighbors and “part of the family” are Bill & Diane Braun. His nephews include Jeff (Michelle), Terry (Kristi), Todd, Dave (Tracy), & Mike (Jennifer). Buzz’s cousins include Chris (Diane)Smiles of Romeo and their daughter Shannon, Adam (Kathy) Smelis of Imlay City, MI. and Tim (Kates) Smelis of Chicago, ILL. He was predeceased by his father, Larry Smiles. Funeral services was held on Monday, December 14, at 11 AM the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home in Romeo. Burial will take place at the Bruce-Armada Cemetery. Pastor Marge Munger of the Lake Orion United Methodist Church officiated. Visitation: SAturday from 6 - 9 PM Sunday from 2 - 9 PM Services: Monday 11 AM at the Funeral Home Interment: Bruce-Armada Cemetery. Located on Armada Center Road, between Kading and McFadden Road on the south side.
