Ruby C. Payne, age 89, a lifelong Romeo area resident, passed away on Thursday, August 27, 2009 at her home. Ruby was born May 31, 1920 in Almont, MI., the daughter of Charles and Lydia (Hicks) Mann. She married Donald Payne on July 9, 1943 at the First Congregational Church in Romeo. Ruby worked for many manufacturing plants in the area, including Ligon Enterprises in Romeo, Interstate in Romeo, the Mt. Clemens Pottery, and also at Palmer Paint in Romeo. Her hobbies included being with her beloved cats, crocheting, knitting, and bowling with her family & friends. Ruby is survived by her daughter Carol Stokes of Romeo along with her grandchildren: Penny (Dean) Orr, Michael Stokes, Donald (Sheila) Stokes, Theresa (Bob) Teller, & Wendy (John) Kreger. She is also survived by 15 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband Don on March 20, 1994, her son-in-law, Jim Stokes on June 16, 2001, along with sisters: Bearnice Bennette, Marsceline Hicks, Buelah Burns, and Genieveve Higgins. Funeral services will take place on Monday at 11 AM at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home of Romeo with Rev. G. James Hockley officiating. Burial will follow in the Romeo Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Sunday from 3-8 PM at the Funeral Home. Visitation: on Sunday, August 30 from 3-8 PM Services: Funeral on Monday at 11 AM at the Henry M.
