Shirley Jean Vandeberghe, born on May 27, 1929, passed away at home at the age of 95 on Sunday, January 12, 2025. She was the beloved daughter of the late Harry and Bernice Wiers.
Shirley’s journey on this earth was centered around her abundant and unconditional love for her expansive family. The number of lives that came to be because of her is truly remarkable, and her legacy will live on in her ever-growing family. She was known for her compassion, patience, and loyalty. She found beauty in simplicity - loving bonfires with her family, snuggling with her animals, visiting with her friends, taking and organizing photos, and listening to music, whether it be Perry Como and Frank Sinatra, or Christian hymns that reflected her deep faith. Her devoted love for God was evident in her actions, and her life was a testament to the love of Christ. Forever beautiful on the inside and out, she was crowned Miss Romeo in 1946.
Her absence will leave a void in the hearts of all of those who love her. Whether you were seeking comfort, enjoying a peaceful day on the deck together, or basking in her loving smile, or vying to be the #1 grandchild, to know her was to be blessed. Shirley’s unwavering devotion to her family and faith will never be forgotten.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Alvin J. Vandeberghe, her daughter, Linda L. Pavelek, and her grandson, Alan B. Vandeberghe. Forever cherished and remembered by: her brother, Stanley Wiers (Shirley), her children Barry Vandeberghe (Esther), Alan Vandeberghe, Mary Jo Gutowski (Rick), Dennis Vandeberghe (Susan), Brenda Laclave (Stephen), Susan Zentz, Mark Vandeberghe (Monica), Lisa Vandeberghe, Lori Vandeberghe, Paul Vandeberghe (Carol), Jason Vandeberghe, her 35 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
