Sonia M. Lopus

Sonia M. Lopus, age 94, a 30 year resident of the Lapeer area and formerly from Johanesburg, MI., passed away on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at the Lapeer County Medical Care Facility. Sonia was born August 27, 1916 in Newark, New Jersey, the daughter of Frank and Antonina (Dudzinski) Hryskiewicz. She married Joseph Lopus in September of 1934 in Covington, Kentucky and he preceded her in death on March 22, 1998. Along with her husband and family, they were long time retailers. Upon moving to the Lapeer area, they were well known in their Silver Maple Retirement Community where she volunteered many hours in the kitchen and with the activity center. She always enjoyed being a bingo caller and with anyone that needed a cup of coffee. Her hobbies included playing all types of card games and all types of crafts. Sonia is survived by her children: Dale (Judy) Lopus of Romeo and Lyle (Jane) Lopus of Berkley, California. Also survived by 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
