Suzanne Chubb Winkler, of Romeo, born June 6, 1931 died October 27, 2010 at 79 years of age. Suki, as she was known to friends and family, lived her entire life in Romeo, with the exception of the 11 years she lived in California when starting her own family. She graduated from Michigan State University in 1953 and majored in Radio, Television and Journalism. While at MSU, she was President of her sorority Delta Zeta, was on the Homecoming Court, was on the Fencing Team and also had a radio show on campus. In 1951, she was also Miss Romeo and served on the Peach Festival Queen’s Court. After graduation, Suki worked at the WXYZ-TV studios in Detroit on the Soupy Sales show. She moved to California in 1956, started a family, and returned in 1967 after the passing of her husband, Richard M. Winkler. Suki owned and operated The Peppermint Stick Gift Shop in Romeo for 12 years. Suki was preceded in death by her parents, Donald B. Chubb, Sr., and “Bette†Chubb, and her husband, Richard M. Winkler. She is survived by daughters Melissa Winkler and Michelle Winkler Waller, granddaughters Jordan Suzanne Waller, Madison Victoria Waller, Caylin Alexandra Waller, brother Donald B. Chubb Jr., and nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will receive friends and family at Marburg’s’ Funeral Home on Friday November 5, 2010 from 4pm-8pm. A Memorial will be held at First Congregation Church of Romeo on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at 11 am with a luncheon immediately following at the First Congreational Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Lung Association.
