Theodore R. Gondert, age 94, a resident of Romeo since 1962, passed away on Monday, December 14, 2020 at Henry Ford Macomb in Clinton Township. T.R. was born September 26, 1926 in Dayton, Ohio, the son of Clarence A. and Corinne (Wroe) Gondert. After graduating from High School, T.R. served in the Navy at the end of WW II and was part of Navy reserves for many years after. He then went to Notre Dame University where he earned a Bachelor Degree in mechanical engineering and was captain of the pistol team. He met and married Charlotte (Cropper) at Notre Dame Cathedral, then went and watched a Notre Dame football game the same day. After Notre Dame, T.R. did more training at the Stevens Institute of Technology and then earned his Master’s Degree in thermal dynamics in Detroit. He began his career at General Motor’s where he helped set & run the wind tunnel at the Tech Center and worked there as a Senior Engineer until December 1, 1987. T.R. was also active in the Romeo area, serving as the Village of Romeo president in 1992. Along with his family, he was a long time member of St. Clement Catholic Church of Romeo and a member of Rotary Club for many years. He loved to roller skate and was often seen at Skate World of Troy, where he was skating into his 90’s. Theodore is survived by his wife Charlotte of Romeo, children: Kathy (Bill) Bolio, 2 child, 2 great grandchild, Armada; Pat Gondert, 2 children,(Romeo); Bill (Joanne) Gondert, 5 children, 9 great grandchildren, Troy; Elizabeth Gondert, harry davis Shelby Twp.; David Gondert and Ginger Steinbrink, Armada; Jennifer (Kevin) Modzelewski, 2 children, Lake Orion. He is also survived by his brother John (Bunny) Gondert of Dayton, Ohio and was preceded in death by his son Theodore (Teddy), grandson Michael, and earlier this year by his sister Nancy Brickson.
