Virginia G. Smiles, age 92, a lifelong Romeo area resident, passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2010 at the Wynwood Assisted Living in Utica, Michigan. Virginia was born October 22, 1917 in Mt Clemens, the daughter of Roy and Helen (Corby) Bade. She married Larry Smiles on October 21, 1939 and he preceded her in death on April 23, 1993. Virginia worked for the Mijak family as a waitress at the Town and Country Inn in Bruce Twp. for many years and also with Ed Fota’s Bowling alley in Romeo. She attended the Romeo United Methodist Church for many years and also helped the women’s guild. Virginia was also a member of the Romeo Auxiliary of the Striber-McVicar Post # 2052 of Romeo. Her hobbies include bowling, traveling, especially the Upper Peninsula and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Virginia is survived by her children: Richard (Janetta) of Bruce Twp., and Walter (Lesta) of Cassopolis, Michigan. Also survived by grandchildren Jeff (Michelle), Terry (Kristi), Todd, Brad (Patty), Shelia (Andy), Diana, Dave (Tracy) and Mike (Jennifer). Great grandchildren include Brent, Melissa, Lindsey, Ben, Abby, Becca, Jacob, Devin, Declan, Katelyn, and Madison. She was preceded in death by her son Roy (Buzz) Smiles on Dec. 10, 2009. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, February 11 at 11 AM at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home of Romeo with Rev. Marge Munger of the Lake Orion United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will take place on Wednesday from 3-8 PM with a 7 PM Women’s Auxiliary service.
