William E. White, Sr., age 88, a resident of Romeo since 1938 passed away at his home on Friday, January 6, 2017 . Bill was born September 20, 1928 in Royal Oak, Michigan, the son of William A. and Faye (Cain) White. He married Betty M. Martin on October 16, 1950 in St John’s Newfoundland and Betty preceded Bill in death on October 8, 2011. Bill graduated from Romeo High School in 1946 where he excelled in football, earning the school’s MVP award and was also its Captain. After graduation, Bill joined the Air Force and served during the Korean War from 1948—1952. After returning, Bill worked for Hollyhock Dairy Farm then went on to manage Hillcrest Orchards and then Big Red Apple Orchard in which he was responsible for planting all the apple trees. After working in the orchards, Bill work with the Romeo School System in maintenance and kept working there till the early 1990’s. Bill was a longtime member of the Striber-McVicar Post # 2052 in Romeo and his hobbies included hunting, playing softball, and bowling. Bill is survived by his children: Gloria (Jack) Dempsey of Marlette, MI., Bill (Mary Grace) White of Sterling Heights, Ron (Christine) White of Romeo, Carol (Roger) Ross of Romeo, Annette (Scott) Engelbert of Bruce Crossing, MI., and Joe (Jennifer) White also of Romeo. Also survived by 21 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, Siblings: Mary Ann Borowski of Romeo, Gloria (Alvin) Sayles of Romeo, Barbara (Jim) Konarski of Capac, Vera (Bud) Brandt of Armada, Harriet Zwack of Capac and Karen Sheppard of Arkansas. and many nieces & nephews in both Michigan and Newfoundland, Canada. Bill was preceded in death by his grandchildren Julie Graver, Rob and Logan White along with his sister Pat Donnley. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday at 10 AM at St Clement Catholic Church of Romeo with Father Doc Ortman officating with burial to follow at the Romeo Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Tuesday from 2-8 at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home, Romeo Michigan. Donations to Down’s Syndrome or the Romeo VFW would be appreciated.
