William (Bill) McLaughlin passed away peacefully in his Romeo home with family by his side on Sunday, Sept 5, 2021 at the age of 89. Bill was born on Oct 23, 1931 in Deckerville, MI, the son of Carl & Helen (Michaels) McLaughlin. His lifetime partner of almost 65 years was Mary Jane, who he married on Sept 29, 1956. ‘Wild Bill’, as many of his friends called him, lived life to the fullest doing the many things he loved: maintaining a meticulous yard & garage; vacationing with family or friends, working on his cars; keeping everything operational on the ‘farm’; the regular trips to Florida after his retirement from Chrysler with 37 yrs; lending a helping hand to anyone in need; and spending tons of time with his family either boating, biking, golfing, or chilling in the sun. Bill & Mary Jane traveled throughout Michigan and the US, but of course would never fly (something he hated). Bill’s smile and sense of humor would bring laughter to many, and his firm handshake was a trademark. Bill was a veteran of the US Army, attaining Sergeant status during his 2 years of service. Bill is survived by his loving wife Mary Jane (O’Connor), his eldest daughter Barb (Ron) Zuke of Rochester, his son Bill (Lucy) of Sterling Heights, and his youngest daughter Linda (Brian) Sabatini of Armada. Preceded in death was their 1st son Michael at the age of 3, along with his 3 younger brothers Robert, Jack, Richard and younger sister Betty. ‘Grandpa’ will be remembered forever by his 7 grandchildren; Ryan, Taylor, Brett, Devin, Logan, Keenan & Cole. Bill touched many people during his 89+ years and will be missed dearly. Visitation for extended family and friends will be Thursday, Sept 16th, from 3-8 pm at the Henry Malburg Funeral Home in Romeo, MI with a memory share starting at 7. Funeral services will take place on Friday, Sept 17, 2021 at 10 am at St. Clement Church in Romeo. In lieu of flowers, donations will support the Rogel Cancer Center Sarcoma Research Fund at the University of Michigan. Checks may be made to “University of Michigan” and sent to the Michigan Medicine Office of Development, 777 E Eisenhower Pkwy, Ste 650, Ann Arbor, MI 48108.
